Bugs / Re: {WINE} Bugs running latest Alpha Version on Mac
« on: June 07, 2015, 04:04:33 pm »
Ok, fixed transition bug by disabling the option "autosave at transition".

Left is the sluggish performance, sound and save issue.

Im sure this can be worked out by tinkering with Wineskin. Maybe later on we will have more expertise on this.

Bugs / {WINE} Bugs running latest Alpha Version on Mac
« on: June 05, 2015, 07:15:29 am »
Dear all,

just purchased the latest Alpha Build on Desutra - (couldn't resist), what a game! All the improvements since the demo are awesome!!  :o

However, I did experience quite a few gliches when running the game. I use the empty Wineskin Wrapper from CPLR (see below), and run the game on a 2010 version MacBook https://support.apple.com/kb/SP584?locale=en_US
I know its a Windows game so I cant expect direct support. However, I thought maybe other Wineskin users have encountered similar issues? Or, indeed, the Windows users might have fixes for it?
Here we go with my bugs:

1. Transition bug
Whenever I transition from one area to another, the game crashes to the main menu (with error message). I then have to load the last autosave to get to where I was going. Happens when I take the elevator, leave/enter an area etc. Not a game stopper quite annoying. Especially during 'forced' transitions (such as intro, Azef Psy quest etc.) at which point the game goes black.
EDIT: will try to find the transition log and upload it

2. Sluggish performance
overall, the frame-rate drops to a halt rather often. Especially in combat or when there are many characters on screen (not so much an issue in the starting area)

3. Sound effect stutter
the music plays fine, but sound effects such as opening a barrel etc. "stutter". Also, sound effects for guns are missing

4. Save game failure (minor issue)
Every time I fail I get the message "error! File could not be saved" although it saved just fine

Any other Mac/Wine user with similar issues?
any info on workarounds?

Thanks a lot!

And thanks to Mr. CPLR for the wrapper...

System Shock 2 uses Wineskin to distribute the OS X version on steam, so this is a potential way to distribute the game to Mac users, FYI.

edit: I zipped up two different Wineskin apps - one with the demo pre-installed and one without. Currently uploading, I'll provide links when that's done...

OK.. first one is done. This is just an empty Wineskin app bundle with all the necessary winetricks. "Show Package Contents" and open the Wineskin.app there. Use the Install Software button to install your copy. https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/5044101/Underrail%20%28Empty%29.zip

Here's a version with the demo pre-installed, to see if it works for you: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/5044101/Underrail%20Demo.zip

I have been playing the beta since last year and i can not recommend it enough.
Despite the bugs the early versions had, it was a very rich and enjoyable experience.
The setting is very fresh, there isnt many games like it. The combat is good, even though its rtwp, its quite manageable.

Gonna wait a few weeks until the bugs are squashed out, but definitely getting this.

Playing the demo was already a lot of fun!

Hey all,

It seems more or less given that Underrail will be on GOG.com when it is released.

Nevertheless, we can help boost the game by voting on the GOG Wishlist:

Let's help promote this game on GOG! Cast your vote now!!  8) 8)

That player house looks good. Hope the bar is not stocked with alcoholic beverages, though. After all, kids could be playing the game...

Announcements / Re: Underrail released on Desura and GamersGate!
« on: June 03, 2015, 06:30:24 am »
Underrail alpha version has just been released on Desura and GamersGate!

If you want to know what's new in this release (since the demo) you can go check out the dev log posts from the last couple of months, but let me just quickly recap the highlights:
  • Huge new urban zone consisting of 8 areas
  • Big new 'dungeon' consisting of 6 areas (twice as much as the last one)
  • A couple of 'mini-dungeons'
  • New quests
  • New feats
  • Traps skill
  • Some updated game mechanics
  • Re-balanced economy
  • Food
  • More weapons and armors
  • Updated crossbows (feats, special bolts, damage boost)
  • Various other smaller stuff

Does buying on Desutra/Gamers Gate now equal getting a GOG key when the game is released?

Thanks a lot!
The Alpha Demo didn't work for me when I made my own 1.7.4 Wine. The game kept giving me a critical error while installing.

However, with your "empty" wrapper I managed to get Alpha Demo to work.
Only thing is that sound effects echoes a lot, which is annoying. Did you experience the same issue? Music is fine but for instance when I open a locker it sorta resonates.
(Same as Jabberwork).

Thanks again ;0)

Anyway, what a cool game!

So, I got the Underrail demo working just fine under Wine. I used Wineskin, and Wine v 1.7.4 with the following winetricks:
corefonts
msxml3
dotnet40
xna40
dirac
vcrun2008
directmusic
dsound
wmp10
wsh57
allcodecs
xvid
vcrun6

I can provide the wineskin app for mac users.

Now that I got the demo up and running I'll probably buy it :).

Perfect! Thanks a lot for the info! Wine always works wonders...

My second question would be: can I avoid Steam while getting this game? I basically hate steam, so it would be a real deal breaker for me...
If I buy it through Alpha Gate or Gamers Gate, will I get a DRM free version similar to GOG.com?

Thanks!
