Other Games / Space Station 13
« on: December 07, 2012, 06:45:33 am »
Well, I wonder does somebody play this hilarious game? For those of you who are either too lazy to google it or just interested enough to read I'll throw in a short introduction.

Space Station 13 is a free game made on BYOND engine where people use their own servers and make own games - which means different layouts of stations are used, different sprites and different rules (some servers endorse roleplaying, other are mostly special game modes, events etc.). It focuses on players being spawned on the station in different roles. There is Captain; Heads of Staff - security, medical, personel, research; Engineers; Scientists and even Janitors, Mimes, Clowns, Chaplains and Librarians. So - for everybody something interesting. Every job has it's role - be it simple entertainment, providing sustenance for the station or setting up power and engines. It makes Space Station living, breathing place. But not for long.

Why? Because on board at the start of the rund spawn either traitors, nuclear agents, changelings or other disasters. The crew role is to find the enemies and deal with the trouble. Which usually ends in total destruction and calling evacuation shuttle. There are also random disasters like meteor storm or just a chemist accidentaly creating napalm and setting medical bay on fire. Add to that rampant diseases from virology, rogue cyborgs and AI (oh GOD), the explosions depressurising the whole parts of the station... and here you have the experience of SS13.

It's lovingly dangerous and mad. Example? Yesterday I was a Librarian and after printing out the Bible of Trip Falling I began my crusade to convert the rest of the station. As a Mime I stalked a guy until he freaked out and ran. As a Station Engineer I blew up when setting up the Singularity (black hole basically). Death is often and prevalent in SS13, but as long as your brain survived you can get either cloned or borged... IF other people are still doing their job.

So? Anyone plays it? Anyone likes it?

Suggestions / Animals in the game
« on: November 04, 2012, 11:49:39 am »
Well I have a question/suggestion - I do understand that Underrail world is a place after some disaster. And continuing on that thought I would like ask and wonder how some animals evolved to cope with new and dangerous world. Simply - will there be beasts comparable with Deathclaws, maybe some other intelligent or semi-intelligent animals? Hoping it won't be spoiling a much of the world.

But the idea of mutated hippos/rhinos can't really get out of my head ;D. Also some giant snakes a'la Resident Evil are also welcome... We could also go the other way and get small, horse-like elephants. Maybe with bone armor? Any other ideas guys?

Other Games / Dwarf Fortress

So... does anybody here play this awesome game? I was thinking of doing some succesion game - and maybe somebody would be interested?

My level is... average. I'm most certainly not a newbie - I can build a fort in most biomes, including moutains. Sadly aquafiers or undead are beyond my level of skill (getting butchered on start... or flooding the fort in the former case).

Any volunteers?

Suggestions / Companions?
« on: September 05, 2012, 05:54:55 am »
I wonder if it would be possible to get some NPC companions... in the likes of Fallout with their own questlines and aims. Wondering wasteland (or really any environment) alone is pretty boring for me. I don't know how the sneaking bits could be made... but it would be a really big plus for adding such feature.

Is it possible? :)

Other Games / What type of player are you?
« on: August 28, 2012, 05:32:50 am »
Well I was wondering how other people on forum play their RPGs. I've find it interesting since I was wondering does my OCD when it comes to collecting stuff, doing everything that can be done and *FINISHING ALL THE QUESTS!* works or not for others. Also psychic powers are cool (like mind/emotion reading).

So, like I mentioned my character is usually in a middle ground - rather rounded stats, mainly ranged/stealth build (I got screwed by this many times, believe me - like in NvN where ranger is... questionable sometimes). It's not like I'm really strong at it hiding skills (when roleplaying...). Also crafting - simple and interesting crafting system is what also tends to break my game (since I put my points in them, not in combat skills). Pickpocketing is another ability I love to use... just robbing merchants and random people blind. It's the sense of exploration I guess.

While I'm usually interested in lore it need to be useful/finely done (Divine Divinity did it mostly correct), otherwise I get bored really soon. Hints hidden in some texts are really interesting to use... of course Baldur's Gate had a lot of flavor text which was useless in game (items descriptions).

Collecting stuff... I always haul healing potions, scrolls, blessing potions, special items... which *may* be helpful some time in the fututre. Then there comes a moment when I sell every piece of useless equipment (ie. I haul reserve armor or sth which gives different resistances and never switch it to battle...).

And I NEVER do the main quest if there are some sidequests/interesting locations to do. Which sometime breaks the game. Figures, huh?

How do YOU play?

Suggestions / A map
« on: August 27, 2012, 05:50:40 am »
While demo areas are rather easy to move in (besides few wrong turns in caves) a map in this type of a game is a must. I sure hope that this feature is missing just because it's a demo - and as such hasn't got many levels yet.

It would greatly help people when searching for quest areas (like infamous SGS barracks). And I'm not even really talking about minimap, just normal map - while checking it could get tedious... I would roll with it.

Bugs / Game exploits & bugs
« on: August 26, 2012, 05:06:00 pm »
Okay, so here are few things I noticed that are possibly game breaking (exploiting enemy AI and combat mechanics).

- on maps where Hoppers are (these small creatures you need to catch in one of the quests) when you frighten them they run back to their holes... and never get in (it's a bug, because it works on one map, but not on the two other). Because of infinite spawn each time I kill/capture one another arrives somewhere on the screen. This can be used for farming their hides (or converting them to armor and selling);

- while stealth mainly works as intended there is also a bit of a problem: it works okay when I attack in stealth mode - my AP are reduced to null. BUT when I first press ENTER and start combat and then shoot it doesn't do it. Don't know if it's working normaly or not?

- another one: on some levels it's possible to do kiting: use stealth before entering the zone, then shoot the enemy, go back to another zone. Wait for stealth to recharge and do it once again. It's possible in burrower lair, on some levels in GMS... etc.

- stealth and stealing. When on 50 stealth I could rob blind nearly every merchant area in SGS. Hide, then move into their sight, use combat, then run last few meters and steal everything that's in container. Rinse and repeat;

- also with stealing. In medical ward surgeon doesn't react to me picking lock on footlocker. On cantina level when near main quest giver (don't remember what his name is) doing this will provoke hostile reaction.

And few questions:
1) would it be possible to provide some kind of stealth bonus/kill? Because right now character-thief has no chance against foes like burrowers without using mentioned exploits.
2) I love the crafting system! Really. Wish there was more blueprints... also - can't it be done so simplest blueprints were free for crafter? (like blueprint for cooked meat ie - I was waiting for it). Or maybe that on some levels crafter would learn different ones?
3) mind reading, or at least emotion reading would be fancy. But I'm sure that'll be a lot of work.
4) while stealthy near the merchants even when I get spotted they do nothing. In real life somebody found out in store trying to hide would be damn suspicius, right?

Hope it helps ;)
