Welcome to Underrail :D Feel free to ask us questions in the future. We don't bite!
Ha ha cheers mate. I actuallly have been writting down notes with a pen and paper now, like when given directions. So far so good. Iam sure i'll need help again. I have googled a few things now, like fishing(wasn't sure if needed to use bait and first few spots i placed the rod there were no bites) and a few little things like that.
 Had a noob moment and couldn't figure out why bandages wouldn't work then realised my health was under 40% or exactly 40% ^^;

As odd as it sounds, I would not rely too heavily on the Notes tab for giving you detailed information on quests, objectives, and criteria. The notes are really only intended to serve as little reminders of quests that need to be completed, and will never provide a detailed list of objectives in step-by-step order.
While it is unconventional, I honestly recommend that you turn to the Underrail Wiki whenever you are stuck, but keep in mind that this naturally gives you access to spoilers and information on future quests and concerns.
Since the Notes tab is rather bare-bones, it is important that you, yourself, have a good note-taking system where you can write down objectives, names, quest information, etc.
Perhaps the Notes tab will be improved with the upcoming expansion, but 'til such a time it should really only be considered a brief To-Do List, or a list of boxes to be checked, if you will.

 Yeah i mean i play alot of RPG's and i like a challange but i guess alot of games have been dumbed down and hold your hand guiding you a fair bit. I guess i didn't realise  initially that simply flicking a switch and seemingly doing nothing but turning the lights on was me actually re taking an outpost.
 I think for some reason i was expecting there to be more to it than that.  It's a bit of a blur now but i think after i powered the generator it just didn't immediately occur to me that now i can flip those switches and i think i must have flipped one or two but it still didn't click that that was what i and all that i had to do. I must've gone back and spoken to Tanner before flipping at least three(thinking maybe there would be something about obtaining explosives to destroy the rocks and open up new paths).
 I remember thinking that maybe turing the lights on will help reveal more trap doors or a hidden door or something lol.

 I guess the fact that there was no form of counter or confirmation that i was re taking an outpost every time that i flipped a switch that threw me off and had me lost and baffled.
 In most games there would be a counter or some sort of noise or pop up telling you that you have re taken one. Or at the very least in your notes it would have a tick box for the three that you need and a second tick box as "optional" for the other two. And it would go green and be ticked and update the quest telling you to now go back and speak to Tanner.

 Still cant believe that even after flipping all five switches i was walking around for all that time wondering what the hell have i missed and what the hell do i do!? I really do not like to use walk throughs or guides but in this case i should have sooner.

 Anyways, thanks for the reply. The bloody power went out here shortly after i figured it out so i wasn't able to progress any further. I will today. I'll keep what you said in mind and be aware that i will really have to think for myself and rely on my own memory rather than be able to rely on the notes.

 Thanks.

 EDIT:oh and i did have a few scotches and was distracted by messeges and hunger while i was playing so i'll use those as my excuses ^^;

Bugs / Very first quest broken/bug? *solved*

 Hey.
  I just started playing underrail today, i created a character, did the tutorials and explored the base and where i could go around it. Ok so, the first quest, activating the generator and re taking the out posts. I noticed a few switches around that flip right back after you flip them, found the generator and activated it by inserting the module or whatever it was.
 It didn't immediately occur to me that now i have to go and flip those switches on but i did this. I did it to all five i believe , three at the very least.
 I didn't actually realise that by simply flipping those switches that i was re taking the outposts. I flipped every switch that i found (really i thought all that i was doing was truning the lights on). Then i found myself stuck. I was walking around and around in circles. I found all the trap doors and ladders and made sure that i had not missed anything.
 I killed all of the hound rats and found the old mans watch, i did not kill that guy with the pet hound rats, i let him live.
 More walking around and around and venturing off to where the psi betteles were. It seemed obvious that i wasn't supposed to be there yet.
 I noticed that in some areas you can target the rocks. So i thought that maybe i needed explosives or a sledge hammer to smash through the rocks to gain access to new areas.
 So i went back to the base and managed to trade my sub machine gun that i traded for the old mans watch and obtained a sledge hammer.
 But of course that did not work. I grew tired or endlessly walking around in circles and back and fourth. Thought maybe i had to talk to someone back at base to trigger something?
 But when i looked at my notes/quests the quest was not complete.
 So i started to google. I watched a you tube video and that was when i learned that i was indeed re taking the outposts by flipping all of those switches.
 So i guess that my game is broken and that i will have to start again? I was only using quick save and auto save. I tried exiting the game and reloading but of course it's stuck that way on my save(s).
 Pretty annoying waste of my night. I didn't find anything on google about this particular bug? is it known/happened to anyone else?
 I guess at least if i choose to play again i can make a character quicker and skip the tutorials and explore the base much faster and its not a particulary hard quest.
 Still really annoying and definitely wasted my night. Probably wasted 4-6 hours if you include walking in circles, googling and typing this post ^^;;
  If i play it again i'll do the odd manual save..
 If there is a fix or suggestion would be nice. Not sure if the dev would like a copy of my save sent to them at all?

 EDIT: ok so i was just reading the walk through/wiki and decided to try re loading and going back and talking to Tanner. I was sure that i had already tried this but perhaps not?(maybe i went and spoke to him earlier before i had flipped at least three or maybe i spoke to the old guy whom lost his watch and thought that would trigger the quest complete? or both?) ^^;
 Anyways, once i had reloaded i checked my notes and it still did not say that i had re taken the outposts/the text was not green and the box was not ticked. But i thought i'd go speak to Tanner anyways and alas, the option to tell him that i had activated all the outposts that i had found was there!
 So i can play more now. Sorry if it was a false accusation but i still fail to see why the quest wasn't done in my notes and that it did not tell me to go speak to Tanner?
