Development Log / Re: Dev Log #47: Announcing Underrail: Expedition
« on: October 12, 2016, 06:34:33 pm »
Yay, finally we get to see what blackwater is all about! No continuation of the main storyline yet, it seems. Just how many expansions have you planned already!? ;)

Also, what are your plans for Underrail updates? Will there be new patches to the base game once Expedition is released, or will future updates be through the expansion?

As many DLCs as we feel like, as long as it's profitable.

We will continue to release updates for the base game as well. In the next update, you'll find that, in addition to fixing bugs, we've done some improvements as well. But more on that in some future dev log. ;)

Styg,

what are your current thoughts regarding:
a) length compared to the original game - 1/2, 1/4? My recommendation: keep it short (packed with content!) and sweet rather than too long!
b) Will the DLC improve the general game i.e. can we use the skills etc. to finish the original game? And vice-versa, can we finish the original game and then the DLC?
Would be cool to see a 'Blizzard style' expansion which really fits naturally with the base game (e.g. like Diablo 2 and LoD).

This is great news!

When is it coming to GOG?
Guess you still prefer Steam :-)

Hey guys,

I really really want to play this game but I run a Mac, and I'm really really clueless about how wine works.  This looks so complicated!  I'm not really a gamer, or technical, so most of the posts don't make much sense...winetricks?  I managed to get the demo running just by downloading the preloaded one from cplr (thanks!).  For the layman, is there a way to get the full version going?  I don't have steam or anything like that either and would prefer to not get one if possible.

Yeah, as I said above the empty wrapper from CPLR also works for the full version (from GOG.com). It has all the "Winetricks" installed needed. If you dont know how to use Wineskin Wrappers just do a quick Google search.

However, I keep having sound issues. The game is playable but it would be cool to get a solution to that...

So, I got the Underrail demo working just fine under Wine. I used Wineskin, and Wine v 1.7.4 with the following winetricks:
corefonts
msxml3
dotnet40
xna40
dirac
vcrun2008
directmusic
dsound
wmp10
wsh57
allcodecs
xvid
vcrun6

I can provide the wineskin app for mac users.

Now that I got the demo up and running I'll probably buy it :).

I managed to get the full version working with your empty wrapper! Thank you so much!!!! !

However, the sound still stutters. I can fix it by turning off the master volume, but that removes all other sound effect as well :-/

Did you encounter this issue as well?

According to WineHQ the game works perfectly in Wine (except cutscenes and auto-save at transition).

Any experiences?

Phew, I might be able to put a sensible post together now that the initial hype spike has dissipated.

First of all, congratulations on the release date - sooner than I expected! I kind of was expecting a delay to early 2016... ;)
It's going to be busy two weeks betatesting everything and preparing for the release.

Me too  ;D

Santa eat your heart out, Styg's gonna kick your ass this year  8) 8) 8)

You can't imagine how happy I was to open the forums today and see that shiny new Dev-Log with all it's awesome pictures!  ;)
Everything looks fantastic, guys; I can really tell that you've been working your asses off improving everything. If this is what SGS and Junkyard look like now, I can't wait to see how some of the other areas have been polished and updated!!  :P

I hope the closed beta goes well for you guys. Keep up the incredible work! Hopefully everything will go well enough that Underrail can be released this December with no concerns!  :D

Keep up the good work, guys!!

Dear Underail'ers,

FYI game-designer overlord JDA now has an updated Wiki page; see link.

It chronicles the main aspects of his career;
- working on Fallout (mainly 1)
- Leaving Interplay/forming Troika (+ his role on Arcanum and Bloodlines)
- Taking a hiatus from the gaming industry
- joining Interplay (again)
- Goodbye Project V13, hello Wasteland 2
- Evolving into Turtle Rock

Looks great, guys!

Enjoy your holidays!

Ps. I would not bet on a release before November/December at the earliest. Seems like there is still stuff to do, and Styg and his Stygsters obviously Wants this game to be darn near perfect.

Im not complaining though. Game looks instant fucking classic 8)
