I'm a big fan of Might and Magic 7/8, but I'm pretty sure this won't be anything like that.

Same here, the 6-8 trilogy is my favourites, especially the eighth one.

As long as it's better than M&M IX, I'm happy, man that game was horrible. I don't have too high hopes either, considering how Ubi have destroyed the M&M franchise over the years. My only hopes are that they hire a good enough studio to get the job done.

Yep, after HoMM 6 (or MM:H 6 as they rebranded it) I swore not to get hyped about another M&M title.

By the looks of this announcement video it seems that it will at least be a party blobber:

Grid-movement? Really? They did that in the 80's and early 90's because they didn't have the technology to support full 360 movement at the time. i think grid movement in modern gaming is a gimmick and it grew old with Grimrocks release. If they decided to make it like M&M 6-8 then I would be happy but.. *sigh*

Where did you see or read about grid movement? Did I miss something?

The last part of the trailer shows some gameplay, and it looks very much like grid movement, I could be wrong though.

I saw that. Could be it, but we can't really say for sure until we see more footage. Here's hoping it has free movement, I freaking hate that grid stuff. Why would you go for first-person 3D without capitalizing on its strengths?

they may be looking for a retroish type feel....which could very easily mean grid based movement....

Well this settles it...

I really can't see myself exploring a M&M 7/8 type huge world (providing this isn't just a dungeon crawler) with robotic 90 degrees turning and measured steps, but I guess this might make the fans of earlier M&M, or Grimrock, happy.

At least it's turn-based, though. Grid movement in real-time, now that's just silly.

I'm disappointed, I've been waiting for a MMX for a long long time and this is what they have to offer?

Isn't that with most reboots of franchises by large corporations? It's either completely frecked up (a'la Syndicate) or just a miss they don't get IS a miss (Baldurs Gate HD for me :P). That is why I'm always waiting for some LP's before making decision to buy. No preorders.
