Title: Dwarf Fortress
Post by: maheusz on September 11, 2012, 05:23:18 am
So... does anybody here play this awesome game? I was thinking of doing some succesion game - and maybe somebody would be interested?

My level is... average. I'm most certainly not a newbie - I can build a fort in most biomes, including moutains. Sadly aquafiers or undead are beyond my level of skill (getting butchered on start... or flooding the fort in the former case).

Any volunteers?

i would LOVE to do a succession game, but pray tell, what version of DF do you want to use?

Post by: maheusz on November 03, 2012, 11:41:02 am
Well I'm using newest 34.11 version - with tiles, mind you. Of course it's not like I figured out the minecarts yet, but I get by. And some of the bugs were fixed, so it's pretty neat, certainly better than earlier ones.

It would be neat to try something like succesion game, waiting for new version to come out ;). With trees and stuff.

cool, any plans on our games placement? or the rules to it? mods? stuff likes that?

I'm not really a big fan of mods, but if you want we could try some. About the rules... One year = one turn? Does that seems okay? Also starting on some savage tile. Maybe mountains or badlands, to add to the challenge? With a world where is little to no metal? Any other ideas? :)

Post by: JeffTheShark on December 09, 2012, 03:47:45 am
if we have no metal, then deons genisis mod would be great, it lets craftsdwarfs make swords from rocks and stuff. BTw deon is like the god of bay 12 modding.

you guys talk about this game, right? (http://dwarffortresswiki.org/images/4/40/FunComic.png) :D

Yup, it's this game alright! The time devouring game...

I only saw the genesis mod by Deon on Blackworth videos, so I don't really know what it changes (and knowing him it'll change a lot). But it is a nice notion. But then again the learingin curve of a mod... ha.

I've already started a fort to check the conditions - savage world, little metal and fortress in the badlands. I found location with few types of metal (yup, these places do exist still) and began to dig. In year 5 I have like 180~ dwarves, about 20-30 graves (not much, right?), fully working fort. The metals are: galena (silver) and tetrahedryte (or sth like that - copper anyway). It's badlands so I can get a lot of food from herbalists and hunters, but not much wood. I already dug low enough to get magma, so it's not really  the problem - and because I have sand... glass traps for everybody! And glass cages. And glass coffins.

So it's possible. And if we're going to start the fort under Deon mod, then I'll need some time get it working and understand what is all about :).

you mean glass doors to glass bedrooms with glass beds in a glass houses? (INCEPTION HORN)
Title: Re: Dwarf Fortress
Post by: maheusz on December 12, 2012, 06:19:52 am
More like glass doors to glass graveyard with glass coffins, defended by glass traps... it's more like DF :D.

After I'll come back from work I'll start generating another world with 'little metal', 'very savage' and 'large'. Then I'll search for suitable spot in badlands... and play for a year. Gonna put the save here with the screenshot of my fort and introduction to what I have done.

Sounds about right.

Okay, so for now I've created the world. The settings are as follows:

Also, after generation I ended with Age of Myth and this kind of continent.

Anybody wants to start, or should I begin the one year cadency?
Title: Re: Dwarf Fortress
Post by: JeffTheShark on December 12, 2012, 11:56:41 pm
il start, but lets wait for a bit, see if anyone picks this up as well!

P.S. one last thing, do you want to do somthing special with this? like make a boat, or a fort entirely made above ground? or somthing like that?
Title: Re: Dwarf Fortress
Post by: maheusz on December 13, 2012, 06:20:11 am
Okay, then I'll put my region file on mediafire when we'll be ready and leave the fort location to you :). I already found one interesting, as shown on the second screenshoot, but the decision lies on your side.

Hmmm... I wonder about that... the above ground fort sound fun. Especially in savage lands. Of course some things like magma forges, farms and few underground outposts need to be down there... but the rest of the infrastructure - why not?

Maybe also get a goal to build a fort spanning all starting 3x3 map. So we need to build watch towers, aqueduct and other stuff. And call it adequately in screenshots! It would get very interesting... and so much stone would be needed ;D. Other ideas?

edit: mistakes

Hey all, I want to join too! :D
Title: Re: Dwarf Fortress
Post by: maheusz on December 14, 2012, 02:13:52 pm
Okay, since there are three guys already we can start. Maybe more people will join. For now the list goes:

Jeff
xmorg
maheusz

Each turn is one year. The world is: rare metal, very high savagery, large and other settings: medium.

Goal: To build a fort above the ground (outposts, mining and magma smelting below the ground allowed) and make it large enough to take most of starting 3x3 map. Also please write about everything you think was important or just hilarious. Screenshots showing the best stuff would be appreciated - also the ending one would be great.

Also one year is one turn, so when we're starting during spring and we end when 'spring arrives'. Even if in the middle of goblin siege.

To avoid save file problems please download Lazy Newb Pack with Phoebious tileset here:

http://dffd.wimbli.com/download.php?id=2801&f=LazyNewbPack+%5B0.34.11%5D+%5BV15%5D.zip

and copy the world/save folder there. Clean install should let us avoid the worst stuff.

World save file is here:

http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?a1l99wic3jhxbs0

So... we're waiting for your choice Jeff... and BLOOD FOR THE BLOOD GOD!

edit: Ah, also to avoid the lag problems please designate trash storage area (further on the line we can upgrade it to magma trash storage :D).

Can I join this?  :) I've played dwarf fortress heaps but never tried a succession game  :(
Title: Re: Dwarf Fortress
Post by: maheusz on December 14, 2012, 11:26:12 pm
@wallace - yeah it's okay - like I wrote before, we're starting, but people can still join :). So we can go like that:

Jeff
xmorg
maheusz
wallace

or, if you're the hasty type I can let you before me ;P. Ah, and remember to read rules in earlier post.

@Jeff - do you have a problem with a image to show on the forum? Or is it something else? You can do it my way - put it on the imageshack.us or some other picture site and then just get a link here ;). It works too. And I'm dreadfully impatient to see what hellish place did you choose :D

im really TRUELY sorry  guys, but i played all the way to late winter.... and bluescreened. the world is ok, but i couldn't do much to help the save. just so you know, i had this really nice heavy forest, warm, good, no aquifer, river area. so i chose this one

umadcauseicanthelpyouwiththatsorrybuticangiveyoumyjellybro

EDIT: i wont be chooseing that one again, the only metel was adamantine and by the time i got it GCS had eaten my GOD DAMNED 15+5 MINER.
Title: Re: Dwarf Fortress
Post by: maheusz on December 15, 2012, 09:47:01 pm
Bad stuff happens, sadly. Well at least I can tell that the game will be... interesting. And blue screen of death sure is irritating ;).

At least if the first one mines towards magma then the rest can do fun stuff with it... like lava moat... or deathtrap :D
Title: Re: Dwarf Fortress
Post by: xmorg on December 16, 2012, 03:40:12 pm
Just a quick question.  what if I play without any mods/tiles?  it shouldn't mess up the saves...
Title: Re: Dwarf Fortress
Post by: maheusz on December 16, 2012, 05:53:55 pm
Well... we're playing without mods - that is why I suggested fresh download from the DF site and I see Jeff is also using Phoebious tile set. But since there is an option in Lazy Newb Pack to convert the save (or 'update' as it is called) then it's not a problem. Just when it's your turn go copy save folder to DF directory, then go to Lazy Newb Pack starting menu, 'graphic' and 'ASCII default'. 'Install graphic' then 'update savegames' and voila - done. Next person needs just to reverse the process - changin ASCII to whatever tileset he needs ;).

So it's okay to play more hardcore (ASCII) or more leasurely (tiles) :D.
Title: Re: Dwarf Fortress
Post by: JeffTheShark on December 16, 2012, 09:56:57 pm
just a question, i like to normaly play with DFHACK, not for the cheaty stuff, but because i like to know what my moods are so as to prevent tantrum spirals, and because dorf legs are short as fuck and need to be much faster.

P.S. can we please not do this 'only ouside' thing, because the happiness of my dorfs depends on my ability to engrave shit for them. oh? we can do inside life now? yay! thanks guys! bye, its time to get my pink floyd on! :P
Title: Re: Dwarf Fortress
Post by: wallace on December 17, 2012, 01:05:49 am
I use the DFG tile set, would this cause problems?  ??? I don't mind using the original if it does.
Title: Re: Dwarf Fortress
Post by: xmorg on December 17, 2012, 02:10:00 am
The tileset alone shouldn't affect the save file.  Mods will however, like making dark elves playable
Title: Re: Dwarf Fortress

oh ok that's good  :) I don't use any mods

Title: Re: Dwarf Fortress

so jeff whats the status? are we doing this?  whens my turn? :'(
Title: Re: Dwarf Fortress
Post by: maheusz on December 17, 2012, 06:16:33 am
@pringdrew - Hell, I know what you mean :D. But it gets fun after few dozens of destroyed forts... or few hundreds. Also video tutorials on YT help a lot - even if the best ones are pretty obsolete now.

@Jeff - Okay, we can throw that 'only above stuff' out, but I would still like to see whole outer map filled with buildings and traps :D. Or better encrusted traps.

@all - Yeah, theoretically tilesets nor DF Hack shouldn't touch the save file. And if it does just convert it back in Lazy Newb Pack save converter and hope for the best...

Title: Re: Dwarf Fortress
Post by: maheusz on December 18, 2012, 05:27:00 pm
Well if Jeff won't tell us he is alive until Friday then I guess the game goes on... So xmorg, please choose suitable location for a fort, in case Jeff is DEAD.

As you remember it should be in the badlands - the metals would be nice and aquifier would be not. Cheers!

Okay, so xmorg you're officially in charge of picking a site... DO US PROUD, SON!

Play a year, then Jeff will start his turn... and then it's at least mine and wallace moment. And then once again xmorg... until death takes us all! For Armok!
Title: Re: Dwarf Fortress

Cool, pick an area like Erebor from the Hobbit  :D I feel inspired to do great things in my turn
Title: Re: Dwarf Fortress
Post by: maheusz on December 19, 2012, 06:28:31 am
Well considering our luck and Dwarf Fortress style we probably get a dragon or two... as far as Erebor goes... oh the yummy dragon meat :D. And dragon armor (it's not really different, but it looks cool right?).

Xmorg, will you be kind to show us starting location when you choose one? And keep us updated about deaths... And, since we are at this topic - choose one dwarf as your 'alter ego'. It would get a point in narration and let us have fun when dying or something... dibs on Chief Medical Dwarf!
Title: Re: Dwarf Fortress
Post by: xmorg on December 19, 2012, 02:24:51 pm
It doesnt look good.  Its midsummer and the miners are already tantruming.  A mining mistake left a miner with a broken leg, and the other miner trapped.  3 squares away from freedom he starts "hunting vermin for food"

Edit: both miners are now dead from starvation :(  Mining picks are trapped in an unreachable location.

Here is how we started
=======================
The kindom of Olonbomrek has sent forth dwarves to make a fortress in Unibgusil
"Ragcopper"

Malfol Lelumreg(Miner)
Udil Letmosobur,(Woodworker)
Edem Kodstakud,(woodcutter)
Tekkud Dorenurrith(Exp Leader)
Atis Nishom(Jeweler)
Logem Lilarzefon(fish cleaner)
Ast Engigkonos(fisherdwarf)->Assigned to mine.

It is early spring.
There seems to be no wood, or water.

Buahahaha it'll be !FUN!, don't despair! You just need to live long enough to get to the caravan... which comes down in Winter if I remember correctly. Then buy a pick (sell everything!). Or you can hope that one of the migrants will be a miner :D.

Still - perserve on! Don't break as long as Armok allows it!

Title: Re: Dwarf Fortress
Post by: JeffTheShark on December 19, 2012, 06:00:58 pm
what. just.... what... am i doing somthing wrong? am i just a lucky bastard? the only trouble i EVER get is when i try for lava and monsters come at me, but i just enlist my miner and it all fixes itself. i never get hunting accedents, i only ever got 1 miner stuck in my entire LIFE. i always manage to get semi happy dorfs, i ALWAYS get enough food, seeds, and everything, and then by the time the caravaan comes along i already have enough cut adamantine and diamond encrusted adamantine goods to buy everything and anything... maybe armok hates me...  ???
Title: Re: Dwarf Fortress
Post by: wallace on December 19, 2012, 09:51:34 pm
Haha same! Yesterday for the first time in ages a monster came to my fortress. (a minotaur to be precise) I thought "oh no, is this the danger I had been warned about?"

I sent my soldiers and one marksdwarf fired a bolt hitting him in the lung and an axedwarf chopped off his head. No casualties, -_- back to prickleberry farming.
Title: Re: Dwarf Fortress

more issues in mid autum.
Found a giant laugur stealing my bone crossbows.
I mustered a militia to go after it.  so 5 weaponless wrestlers finally catch up with it.  As it gores one dwarf to death the rest beat it to a bloody pulp.  However we are not able to kill it with punches alone.  I then stop the assult and assign weapons.  The copper axe does the job.

Back in business!
ITs late autumn and the merchants have arrived.  I sold all of my stone mugs and purchased 2 mining picks.
I also bought as much wood as the merchant had, because I know my dwarves are getting tired of sleeping on the floor.
Title: Re: Dwarf Fortress
Post by: maheusz on December 20, 2012, 06:20:31 am
Well I would say it is unusually bright and funny game thus far... But that what makes it fun :D. And challenging.

Also guys, did you start a game in very savage world and also in the badlands/some similar and hard environment? Because it changes a lot.

Good job, xmorg! When you finish please write and overview and post it here and also compress the save file and publish it on mediafire or other easily available service :).

And I'm creating another thread for only 'DF stuff' where posts about the life of the fortress are published. BTW what is the fort called, xmorg?
Title: Re: Dwarf Fortress
Post by: xmorg on December 20, 2012, 03:03:45 pm
It is now spring.
The file can be downloaded from http://www.cooperlabs.net/packages/region3.zip (http://www.cooperlabs.net/packages/region3.zip)

Notable events. (as legends would tell it)
The settlement is Known as "Ragcopper"
In the early spring of 251, the Metal of Bristling of the Geared Whips founded Ragcopper.

In midsummer 251, the dwarf's Mafol Wanegloves, and Ast Flaxbrass both died of thirst after being trapped in a mining accident, in which they channeled lower than the stairs.

In early autum the dwarf Oddom Granitelock blead to death, slain by the giant gray langur "Rampagedblocked", in Ragcopper.

In midautum 251 the giant grey langur Rapangedblocked (who was stealing bone crossbows) was struck down by Litast Slippedoar with a copper battle axe in Ragcopper.

Kib Netfastens is known for creating (occasionally) masterful stone mudpots.

Not mentioned in legends!
the Dwarf Xmorg, "miner" carved out a marble bedroom for himself, took one of the few beds available,  along with an armor stand and chest.  he then falsified work orders to have the stone in his room smoothed

A giant toad was wounded pretty bad by the militia commander only steps from Xmorg's marble bedroom (Hotkey F3)

It's Jeff turn now - please pick up the file and tell us all about your exploits. Or if you're still away just drop a post.

Also please DON'T make lever of doom and just leave it there for kicks... :)

Thankfully we're far away from magma levels... so digging down there from fort level could be too much :P. Although... I love traps and I wonder is there any sand of a map (I've gotta steal a look after I've come back from work). Lovin' serrated glass disc and other funny stuff :D.

If I'll get the levers of what-the-hell-is-that - then I'm going to wall them in :>. It's just waiting for a catastrophe to happen... I wonder what happens when the shit hits the fan and we get the first siege... who'll be lucky winner? :D

Great, it's all going into place... until Necromancer or some other dude won't fuck up our day. Such is the way of Dwarf Fortress!

Well, when I'll get my hands on the save I'm thinking on making THE DEATH ROAD... from the side of the map to the center of fortress. And full of traps. Do we have sand? Or should I just use the metals on site? :D

i periced into a cave with lots of shrooms, so i can make coal and metal  is no longer a problem. on another note, im thinking of putting up the save mid year, i recently accuired far cry 3 and it is consuming alot of my time, maheusz, your the leaderguy, what should i do?

Nice, but magma is sure our goal :D. Still any metal IS good.

If you're betraying the Dwarf Fortress for Far Cry 3 then nothing can be done :P. Get the save down here and I'll go through rest of the year and next year, so wallace won't die from boredom in the meantime :D.

And we'll see you on the next turn ;>

Wow, just had 2 sieges in my fortress one after another :( A total of 120 goblins, 45 trolls a spearmaster, 2 pikemasters, 2 axe lords, a mace lord, a hammerlord and a goblin war leader.

I'm still holding out against the second siege but my best soldier is in hospital with broken arms and leg and spine. I'm gaining valuable experience for my turn :)

Also, I was enraged to find that my dwarves were using the adamantine strands for sutures >:(
Title: Re: Dwarf Fortress
Post by: maheusz on January 03, 2013, 01:51:21 pm
Yeah, adamantine strands are the best you can get :P. You can always forbid them until further notice, there was also an workaround somewhere on the wiki if I'm correct.

Two sieges? Neat. I remember that once I had an ambush, which I crushed. Then, while my dorfs were happily scavenging stuff three more ambushes appeared... After losing half of my military and dispatching them... a SIEGE. Just dwarf fortress for you :D.

Also I would love the ability to get mechanical arms/legs/bodyparts for dwarves. Wouldn't it be cool? :D

Well I'm after Jeff, so as soon as the save will appear I'll take the fortress off his hands :P. Hopefully not all dwarves are named as of yet, but it should be fun nonetheless :D.

According to old dwarven records in case of the fuck-up we should revert to old save. But if such thing happens in winter or something then we can reclaim the fortress... and hope no necromancer will come, making zombie army in place :D.

I would still bet on our Jeff, xmorg :P. The new version is far and between with stuff getting completely reworked (according to Toady work log). I'm already loving an option to free the city from under enemy occupation... or wander into YOUR OWN LIVING fortress :D. It's gives me shivers just thinking about it.

Yeah, Jeff, I'm watching One F Jef series for some time and I always loved how he made all these Dwarf Fortress videos. There are others which are nice (like Iron Front lols) and few that I must get around to watch, like his X-Com Let's Play. He is one of few YT Let's Players who really get into the depth and madness of Dwarf Fortress. And I love that :D. He reminded me of that after few Kerbal movies with this new DF adventure with human vampire lasher... Fishcandy he was called? It was awesome :D.

Buuuuuut, returning to topic... you didn't butcher the saves, or something, right? :P. They don't have much return in meat and fat ;>.

nope, i've been working on getting my butcher to stop stanking up the first level. easiest thing was to just make the whole level 'outside' by digging out the top. its worked so far, but these *rotten crundle brains* have to go somewhere and my dorfs don't understand what dumps are for. sigh.

Title: Re: Dwarf Fortress

haha yeah cats are so frustrating. I hate it when they walk outside and you feel compelled to let every last one inside before shutting the gates but then more leave. *sigh*  :( Have you encountered any forgotten beasts yet?
Title: Re: Dwarf Fortress
Post by: maheusz on January 22, 2013, 01:10:15 pm
Well in my silly fortress with copper and silver, 200 dwarves and some magma smelting I've already had like three forgotten beasts. One was a giant moth which promptly flew towards my miners and hurt few. Then my militia came and beat ass. Then was some kind of fish/aligator monster which killed few fisherdwarves (I got them to gather fish from underground lake). Also dispatched. The third is lurking while I'm making a bridge.

I'm on a third year? I guess. Few ambushes squashed on my traps (and one waited out in the fortress when they slaughtered my militia with arrows) the rest of goblins and trolls are in cages. I'm currently doing a pit of doom with silver spikes on the bottom and testing their endurance :D.

There was also an werelizard which killed my hunter... and nothing more. I guess I'm waiting for a siege or something. Making glass traps and planning few funny things. Maybe I'll post some screens here :D.

My only problem is that because I didn't invest in training room my militia is not really that strong. I usually pit them on the goblins which survive 10-z levels fall and impaling. Or trolls. These survive too usually. I can't wait when I get to some adamantum :D.
Title: Re: Dwarf Fortress
Post by: wallace on January 23, 2013, 12:05:16 am
Nice! You sound pretty prepared. My fortress is built over a river. (with a bridge connecting both sides) The idea being that on one side (with the entrance) would house my soldiers and the other side is a fall back point with the rest of my dwarves. I managed to increase the population limit in the config file to 300 so the fortress is still growing. In the caverns underneath, there is a forgotten beast somewhere but I've walled it off.

Making a pit is a good idea. I usually just have them fight my soldiers fully armed but recently I had a dwarf called wallace with an artifact sword but his arms were smashed to pieces by a goblin maceman so I think I need have a new system for fighting prisoners :/
Title: Re: Dwarf Fortress
Post by: xmorg on January 23, 2013, 02:14:20 am
I am a big supporter of bone carving. Bone armor and weapons are cool.
Before the smelting industry i usually do lots of shell/bone gear as well as bone
studded gear.  How do clamshell helmets work?  Im not really sure, but its definitly
a primitive fashion statement.   ::)
Title: Re: Dwarf Fortress
Post by: wallace on January 23, 2013, 05:41:18 am
Is bone equipment good? I never do much with it except when someone goes into a strange mood and asks for bones. Before I start making weapons, I usually rely on the miners to hack any enemies to pieces with their pickaxes.
Title: Re: Dwarf Fortress
Post by: maheusz on January 23, 2013, 06:48:04 am
Haha, well bone equipment is god damn awful :P. I've already tried it few times and each time my militia was slaugtered by copper wielding goblins. There is a lot of stuff when considering quality and usefullness of the weapons and armor... but mostly I use bone armor only when no other things are available. It goes like this: bone - copper - bronze - silver - iron - steel - adamantum. Or something like that anyway :P. I'm going from memory. Of course there is also question of quality, so artifact bone equipment can be awesome, but it's more of a exception from the rule :P. Shells are pretty much on the same level as bone thingies.

Are there any bone weapons? Not counting artifact ones? :P.

God, 300 dorfs? My computer would die and burn. With 200 it's getting like half of the normal FPS. And when siege/ambush comes... duh. I prefer to rely on lumberjacks to do the killing. The axes are edge weapons which means they cut stuff off. And that tends to kill people and monsters fast. Pickaxe is a piercing weapon, with some bashing capability I think (I remember reading it on the wiki) so it has a chance to destroy vital organs.

Bridges are good, but won't the river turn to ice in winter? I got fucked over by the temperature changes more than once :P. And making different part of the fortress the military and civilian is cool and all... in theory. Because dorfs and animals love wandering here and there. Pissing my OCD off.

Also I must say that pit is not really THAT effective. Better thing could be probably some kind of magma chute for prisoners (but their stuff would be unrecoverable) or drowning chamber. It depends on the level of the skill though. I'm not sure I know enough to attempt it.
Title: Re: Dwarf Fortress
Post by: wallace on January 23, 2013, 08:09:29 am
I'm in a kind of warm climate. It hasn't snowed in a long time. Though a few years back I had a huge depression amongst the children because there weren't enough clothes (I haven't updated yet) and some child got angry and somehow destroyed the bridge and 3 dwarves drowned :(

I also have a back entrance but that goes under a waterfall so two thirds of the time they get swept off and drowned (there are 6 dead dwarves at the bottom)

I made a wall around my fortress completely out of mircoline which took ages because part way through we ran out and I couldn't bring myself to use another material.

In the last seige I was soo annoyed because the elves arrived just before a siege and I thought I'd better let them in. So they were in my fortress the whole time during the siege at the trade depot. Then it came up with the message they have embarked on their journey so I decided to open the gate and lower the bridge... But they didn't leave >:( instead a whole lot of trolls got in a beat my elite marksdwarf to death.
My other champion was paralyzed from the waist down because in another siege trolls broke his spine :( I hate trolls.
Title: Re: Dwarf Fortress
Post by: maheusz on January 24, 2013, 09:03:57 am
You're lucky then, no changes of temperature mean that there will be less of problem with power production, etc. And yeah dorfs tend to destroy stuff when they're angry. They're like little, bearded Hulks.

Back entrances are dangerous - you have to keep an eye on every place enemy can enter and it was my death many times. But, of course, the idea of making stuff outside still sits well with me, so archer towers above the ground to destroy (and see!) these pesky ambushers is sure good.

I usually surrender fast when it comes to building walls :P. Especially because in newer iterations of game the stone starts to become scarce resource! I actually did run out of it! That was a shock first time it happened.

Also I read somewhere (on wiki or maybe bay forums) that ambushes and sieges tend to arrive with merchants - just to fuck you over more :P. So I'm always veeeery careful when one shows up (not counting the first year of course). Still the only good thing elves bring are tamed animals. The rest is just crap. I've would have left them for the siege to deal with :P.

At least trolls aren't poisonous. Tried Giant Spiders yet? :D
Title: Re: Dwarf Fortress
Post by: wallace on January 25, 2013, 07:05:16 am
My back entrance has a bridge that is pulled up at all times and a corridor filled with traps and two locked doors (mainly to stop my dwarves using it and getting swept off by the waterfall) My wall took ages to build because for some reason they often ignored the wheelbarrows and hauled the microline there.

Yeah I'm regretting letting them in. I've decided from now on to kill them if they come near.

My dwarves ran into some giant spiders while they were searching for webs to make silk. My mayor got killed by one before my soldiers could reach him, but it turned out he was the vampire that was troubling my fortress so that was ok I guess :D

i..... have been avoiding this... honestly.... i.... the save file.... is.......*sigh* corrupted. fuck. every time i load it, even with a fresh program, it says that the file is corrupted. and honestly i am NOT playing the entire year over, with like 5 forgotten beasts, 3 caravaans, and umpteen trillion mother FUCKING 'path not found's! no. im done. mahzeus, if you want, the save from the beggining of the year is there, and i'l even upload the corrupted mid-winter save if you want it. but no. no more beastes, no more 'miserable' dorfs, no more sober forts, and for Armok's sake, i didn't even have !!FUN!!

wow one of my dwarves survived an execution :o with only bruised hands. My hammerer must suck pretty bad :/
Title: Re: Dwarf Fortress
Post by: maheusz on January 28, 2013, 06:44:44 am
Was it an execution or just beating? Because dwarves usually survive those - and if you only have some weak hammers or hammerer without skill then it's possible. Or the dorf in question could be a vampire - they usually are pretty sturdy and have very high skills. So yeah... check his background.

It seems like I'll be taking over (at last!). I've got xmorg save on disc (just in case :P), so after I'll come back from work I'm going to start playing :P. Also it seems like new rule needs to be enforced - one dorf cannot keep the savegame longer than for a week. Failure to comply will make next player take his turn.

It's okay, I presume? :P. If I won't publish the save file till 04.02.2013 next guy takes my place :).
Title: Re: Dwarf Fortress
Post by: wallace on January 28, 2013, 07:33:29 am
That's cool :) The dwarf was sentenced to two hammerstrikes for failing to follow a construction order (or something like that) The last two dorfs with a sentence like that (they had 5) died. I need to check his background because the last vampire I had killed 3 and was elected as mayor before he was killed by a giant cave spider. Don't want one of those again :/

I made big post on the history thread and I'm now commencing to upload my save. The fortress is thriving and somebody can go make people again, because I was too busy fending off these damn crundles. And other monsters.

And like I said - now the rule is one week - if you can't fit in the next person goes on. Also I hate you. Who left the caverns open? While there were only 10 dorfs...

Also I'm pretty sure that it was you, who opened the caverns, since Jeff also talked about 'drowning in rotting crumble brains' :P. So yeah...

Title: Re: Dwarf Fortress

I would say that is xmorg turn now, since somebody butchered the saves and let them rot :P. And you come next, Jeff. That is if there will be pieces to pick up after yearly Giant Lagurs invasion (God, I hate these things...).

It looks like you were busy enough, wallace, the first level looks now nice and dandy. I'm waiting for full recount of the events. And yeah, did you name the dwarves? Or should xmorg/jeff do it?

PS. You use image function that way:

[_img_]link to image[_/img_] - just delete '_'

It should work with full link... like the one I've put here:

Which means DIRECT link to the photo. Not the one to the page with photo :). In your case it's http://img152.imageshack.us/img152/3605/56650428.png

Now focusing on quarters and furniture.  There are quite a few homeless dwarves running around, a sad fact that caused one 2 tantrums after the forgotten beast attack.
Title: Re: Dwarf Fortress
Post by: maheusz on February 08, 2013, 06:27:50 am
I would say that tantrums were more because of the fact that we've already lost a lot of dorfs and surviving ones doesn't like this. Like this child who bled to death and pretty much most of the the fortress I've got. Also there weren't a lot of engravings... not counting the graveyard. So yeah.

btw did somebody checked the engravings near coffins? They're probably full of death and despair. And cheese.

Also: did anyone made preparations for pumping magma up? Into the moat?
Title: Re: Dwarf Fortress
Post by: xmorg on February 08, 2013, 06:55:23 am
No magma pumps yet.  mostly focusing on arming the guard, giving the mayor, captain bookeeper and manager acceptable quarters.
Its mid autumn, still working on my turn.

The engravings in the dining room seem obsessed with deaths or some random cyclops :/
Title: Re: Dwarf Fortress
Post by: xmorg on February 08, 2013, 04:01:58 pm
My new alias is a useless one year old child!  it has its own engraved mansion with food stores, table, chair etc. :)  its late autumn,

Ambush!  A terrible battle was fought on the eastern slopes of Ragcopper shortly after the eastern guardtower was built.  Boltrage fired endless vollies of bolts down upon the goblins from the guardtower as they attempted to storm the keep.

All was going well until a miner decided to take a vacation at the gate, and a suturer decided now was a good time go go savaging.
The Unibgusil Regulars were called to sally outside and take on the goblins in hand to hand combat to prevent the goblins from chasing down the two idiots.  Wallace also went into war, no doubt anxious to try out his new maul.

Even now the 'Wallace' Alathilum's corpse is being carried to the crypt.  Two markdwarves and the captain of the guard are in the hospital.  The goblinite came at a bitter-sweet cost...

Shortly after, Iden Gasolcilob gave birth to a boy while making a 'masonary' construction,  He was called "Alathilum's Bane", to mark the sad occasion...  It is early winter.

The forgotten beast Ukla Thretelspugac has come! An enormous blob composed of water.  It has a broad shell and it undulates rhymically. Beware of its deadly spittle!

There are apparently a LOT of births taking place...

Zefon Namedgem, a member of Wallace's Memory, killed the Forgotten beast with her *Alder Shield*(wooden)

A goblin ambush was easily suppressed by the cage traps.

The Forgotten Beast Tharama has come!  A towering eyeless surpent.  IT has a pair of long antennae and it squirms and fidgets.  ITs slate gray scales are large and overlapping.  Beware of its poisonous sting!

It is early spring.  Snatcher protect the children!  The Regulars and Wallace's Memory are still fighting the Forgotten Beast Tharama.  The entry point appears to be the first drinking well.

The next person is up!

I guess we can start counting from yesterday - the whole week of waiting before picking up the save :P. So yeah... Jeff has time until 19.02.2013 to get on with it :P. If not I'll be getting my own sweet battle with Forgotten Beast :D. And one more dwarf to be alive.

Doesn't seem like it. I'll be picking the saves tomorrow if Jeff won't put them up here :P. So the game will continue!

And I sure hope that this beast won't kick my dwarven hairy ass!

While I was waiting for my turn I thought I'd play around with the 3D visualizer. Here is Ragcopper in 3D:

(At the end of my reign that is)
Title: Re: Dwarf Fortress
Post by: maheusz on February 20, 2013, 11:23:43 am
Heh, sadly it doesn't show amount of bodies and blood sprinkled everywhere :P. It is however a good thing to start above ground fortifications :D.

BTW. How does guarding tower look in 3D visualizer?

Also I'll be naming every dwarf in my turn. So if somebody is dead or something then a juicy 'II' will be created near their name. I'll use forum names, but if I run out then a game characters or something will be used.

So if you want a guy with some specific profession then drop a post and it'll be done! :D

Title: Re: Dwarf Fortress
Post by: maheusz on February 21, 2013, 07:01:32 am
Welp, it's not like we were hiding anything :P. The order of turns was estabilished some time ago - and since your turn is after: wallace, xmorg, you and me... and then round around again. If you promise swift turn then you can pick up the save... and if not I'll get the turn done tomorrow (terrible hangover today & muscle pains after fun at skating ring). And you can pick up afterwards.

Because something needs to be done, or we all die from boredom :P.

BTW. On the other note... If somebody wants a game of Crusader Kings 2 over Steam then I'm all in! Nickname over there is 'furryseat' (DON'T. ASK. I was young, stupid and didn't know english well).

I've only got the save from my turn and as the internet is sloow at my place I'll upload a picture when it comes to my turn. 40mb takes a while :( Speaking of turns have we sorted out who's go it is?
Title: Re: Dwarf Fortress
Post by: maheusz on February 23, 2013, 11:56:21 am
Yup since Jeff went on the trip without saying the save is mine now :P. I'll give it to him afterwards... and then it's normal order of business again :).

Welp, 40 mb? What kind of pictures are you taking? :>
Title: Re: Dwarf Fortress
Post by: wallace on February 24, 2013, 12:54:56 am
haha I mean the save files. 40mb for a picture would be pretty big xD. I'm looking forward to my turn, sounds like a lot has changed since I last saw it.
Title: Re: Dwarf Fortress
Post by: maheusz on February 28, 2013, 06:22:35 am
Well, guys I'm already on winter in my turn - a lot of stuff happened. Later this day I'll be getting my 'journal' on site with pictures and stuff. But few things that has been done:

- I've named EVERY dwarf in the fortress, these range from few guys from the forums to different heroes/villians/stuff; 173 dwarves (for now);
- aboveground fortress part is being remade - bigger gates (two tiles is too little for a wagon to enter); eastern wall was lenghtened; refuse pile moved; some earth channeled;
- four or five Forgotten Beasts - and one Hill Titan (made from salt, lol), which means casualities are mounting up;
- there is probably some tainted blood somewhere because dwarves drop dead randomly (they bleed to death), I've decided to seal the wells and make another one - if I won't do it fast enough then you'll need to finish the job;
- more housings are being made, but it's still not enough;
- cemetary is finished for now (fully engraved), but it still needs more coffins... a lot more! :P;
- copper armor for everyone!

Stay tuned for new save and new fun! Also the Forgotten snake Beast that I was fighting in the beginning of my turn slaughtered like ten dwarves. Sadface.
Title: Re: Dwarf Fortress
Post by: wallace on February 28, 2013, 07:48:04 am
Sounds good :) The dwarves dropping dead isn't a vampire is it? I hate those things :(
Title: Re: Dwarf Fortress
Post by: maheusz on February 28, 2013, 08:12:54 am
Nah, not a vampire - it would say 'dwarf was found drained of blood' and instead information says 'dwarf bleed to death' just before 'stopping eating: Resting Injury' or whatever dwarf was doing. So yeah... more like epidemy :P.
Title: Re: Dwarf Fortress
Post by: maheusz on February 28, 2013, 05:44:02 pm
Okay, the journal is done and I'll upload the save as fast as it comes online on mediafire.

Title: Re: Dwarf Fortress
Post by: maheusz on March 01, 2013, 06:12:38 am
Then we'll count it, starting today :P. Since it's 1st March if you won't bring back the save alive at 8th March then it goes back around to either wallace and xmorg... and you Jeff (if you will be so busy that the game won't get done).

And I may warn you, shit starts to get real :P. We've a lot of dwarves now, pretty much a functioning fortress and goddamn epidemy within the walls. But as far as I remember everybody is alive - counting me, you, wallace and xmorg. And Styg. I saw his dorf during the siege.

That's all good, should I pick it up from here then?

here's what the tower looks like:

seems more squashed than I thought it was going to be from the 2d version :/
Title: Re: Dwarf Fortress
Post by: maheusz on March 08, 2013, 11:08:25 am
Yup, you're free to do your turn, wallace - and like I said before - beware the siege that is just now ending ;P. After that it's xmorg turn, then, once again Jeff (will you make it this time?) and mine. Also, holy hell, it's sure getting a bit mad now. The graveyard must be filled with coffins, good sirs!

The tower looks less towering that I would like. Oh well. It's always weird when talking about Z-levels.

And Jeff it seems like there is some kind of curse on your computer :P.
Title: Re: Dwarf Fortress
Post by: wallace on March 08, 2013, 11:06:14 pm
ok cool, managed to fight off that siege. I'm pretty sure nobody told me that was there hahaha! xD Everything seems to be running fine except that dwarves seem to be randomly dying about 1 every minute!! What do I do?? :/
Title: Re: Dwarf Fortress

another one just bit the dust :o
Title: Re: Dwarf Fortress
Post by: maheusz on March 09, 2013, 12:17:57 pm
Like I said - it's an epidemy! My guess it's either blood one of the Forgotten Beast was deadly and it just kills dwarves that walk through it or something like that. Or it's just the squad of soldiers who fought last beast and was sprayed with some gas cloud is now biting the dust.

They just bleed to death, right?
Title: Re: Dwarf Fortress
Post by: wallace on March 09, 2013, 11:33:28 pm
yeah it says: x cancels stuff, resting injury then they are found dead :/ I swear about 10 must have died that way so far during my turn :o

Title: Re: Dwarf Fortress

After wallace finishes and gets save up here ;). And only if the fort won't disappear from this strange 'bite the dust' disease.

I would say that maybe quarantine could help? Maybe? Hopefully?
Title: Re: Dwarf Fortress
Post by: wallace on March 11, 2013, 05:49:02 am
I have no idea where it is coming from or who is affected until they die! :( I have a hunch it may be one of the bedrooms because 2 died in it one after another but I have no idea :o I'll look closely at the next few deaths
Title: Re: Dwarf Fortress
Post by: wallace on March 11, 2013, 05:52:46 am
On a lighter note, I've begun work on a new dining room called "Wallace Hall" in honour of one of the previous leaders ;)

EDIT: bane just bled to death in the dining room so I don't know what's happening!! :o
Title: Re: Dwarf Fortress
Post by: maheusz on March 11, 2013, 06:14:07 am
Lol, welcome to my world then. I was offsetting deaths with migrants, but it's no fun when legendary dudes die because of random syndrome. The problem is that they bled to death - it's probably carried by their fluids, next batch of people ingest them when they eat etc, and the circle of death continues. It's especially hard because with 200 dwarves there is no way in hell to divide infected and clean dwarves.

I guess we could do something radical. Like lava purge.
Title: Re: Dwarf Fortress
Post by: wallace on March 11, 2013, 06:16:12 am
haha yeah we have to sort something out, somebody just died exactly next to where bane left us so I think you're on to something about the fluids

and the weird thing is, it's just a pool of blood they leave, no splatter or smear

one last thing, babies keep dying of thirst :/

Moving onto a happier topic, we have just run out of bolts and a siege has arrived aaand there's an elite bowman fml :(

so. much. death... :(

as if we didn't already have enough!! By the way who ever put in the weapon traps in was really smart!! They killed heaps of goblins and trolls and alligators
Title: Re: Dwarf Fortress

so much death... what can men do against such reckless hate?
Title: Re: Dwarf Fortress
Post by: maheusz on March 11, 2013, 11:38:46 am
These  traps are my idea :D. Good to know that they worked as intended... especially since goblin chiefs tend to charge first they also get killed off first! And that has very derimental morale effect on the surviving enemies :P.

Also, xmorg - winter is coming. With all it's glory :)
Title: Re: Dwarf Fortress
Post by: wallace on March 12, 2013, 02:51:42 am
Ride out and meet them!

I sent out the two close combat squads and there were several casualties :'( There is soooo much armour and weapons to claim!
Title: Re: Dwarf Fortress
Post by: maheusz on March 12, 2013, 06:23:45 am
Well, since I've made a lot of high quality copper armor (yeah I know -_-')... the armor should be in the abundance - but of course the more weapons you take the more weapon traps I can create on my Death Fieldstm.

Any notable deaths? Does our alter egos are still alive? Or really, really hurt? :P
Title: Re: Dwarf Fortress
Post by: wallace on March 12, 2013, 07:07:33 am
I don't think tooo many notable ones I know of :/ Xmorg died during the siege at the start :(
Title: Re: Dwarf Fortress
Post by: maheusz on March 13, 2013, 07:15:17 am
And are you naming new dwarves? I mean it's easier to say that Superman led the glorious charge against goblins invaders, right? :P.

The only problem I have now is how to make enough pipes to make some kind of stream/waterfall that would clean the dwarves... and possibly stop this damn infection.

edit: Or enough tombs.
Title: Re: Dwarf Fortress
Post by: wallace on March 15, 2013, 06:34:57 am
Haha there's only been about 3 births and no migrants so not too many to name :D By the way, I've been really busy with school so I haven't finished my turn :/ and I've just been given a big history assignment so I may not be able to finish any time soon. Should I upload it where it is or would we start from the old save?
Title: Re: Dwarf Fortress
Post by: maheusz on March 15, 2013, 09:43:26 am
And how far in are you? What month?

Obviously it's xmorg call - if he wants he can finish your turn and his and then throw it to either Jeff of me.

Also no births, but three? You're a lucky man, wallace. My dwarves were f...ornicating all over the place ;P.
Title: Re: Dwarf Fortress
Post by: wallace on March 16, 2013, 05:58:51 am
Haha maybe they're too depressed. I'm still relatively early into it (20th Felsite, Late Spring) I'll upload it anyway and xmorg can choose, I probably won't get a chance to during the week

It's uploading now. Good old New Zealand internet, it's chugging along at 75k a second -_-

Here we are: http://www.mediafire.com/?ff2dc6bfc1nwbnd

Good luck :)

...you'll need it ;)

especially with the current death rate
Title: Re: Dwarf Fortress
Post by: maheusz on March 18, 2013, 06:10:15 am
So, xmorg you alive? Or something? Because we need to know how the turns should go. Or if Jeff computer is online and well :P. Because for now it seems like the topic is quite dead ;].

Yeah due to this damn epidemy then it may be that reverting to older saves should be possible (I've got most of saves anyway :P).
Title: Re: Dwarf Fortress
Post by: xmorg on March 19, 2013, 01:39:03 am
So im playing, and focusing for now on reducing lag with a new lava dump (not created yet)
When i took over the fort, the jobs were so backlogged and there were no idlers, so im also trying to reduce the workload.

wow there are a LOT of babies....
Title: Re: Dwarf Fortress
Post by: maheusz on March 19, 2013, 06:34:10 am
So that means you started from wallace save? How's the epidemy? Many more dead?

And don't scare me, my computer was already chugging when I was playing last save :P
Title: Re: Dwarf Fortress
Post by: xmorg on March 23, 2013, 06:43:27 am
I am primarily focused with reducing lag, and widening the catacombs.
I finally managed to bury all of the dead dwarves, and a few more died here and there.  I figured that all the troll, cave croc, and goblin corpses are useless so i lavadumped them.  Also I am currently trading with a human caravan... all of our old clothes and countless bone and stone crafts for quality goods.  Its still late summer, and all and all the fortress should be a lot cleaner, and full of children come spring.

so its late autumn now.  nothing is happening at all aside from the human caravan.  Sorry its taking me longer now...

Edit: its winter, there have been 2 trading caravans.   and now this... "merit deserves reward, we will be elevated to a colony in this land.   I have randomly chosen "Lala" the  Potter for elevation!

Haha, new turn then, is it? Nicely done sir! The epidemy continues, but at least Ragcopper will survive. Did you try some new ground works?

Also: barony? :D. I hope that there are noble quarters for new blueblood dwarves.

Jeff, you alive and computer well? Or should I take care of the savegame?
Title: Re: Dwarf Fortress
Post by: xmorg on March 27, 2013, 01:04:01 am
Yes, I belive pressing F4 or F5 will take you to the makings of an underground palace.  All of the nobile requirements are met but the palace lacks engravings.  A door needs to be added to the tomb so that it can be enlarged and of course it needs lots of furnature.

note: there was an "ambush" in late winter but i never saw it actually hit the fortess... beware....
Title: Re: Dwarf Fortress
Post by: maheusz on March 27, 2013, 06:41:28 am
Good. I'll picku up the save in Friday if Jeff won't be alive until that time ;P. I always have just enough time on weekends.

Also I'll probably just force half of the population to be masons. It should help any engraving/building works. The only problem we will probably encounter sooner or later is some random necromancer coming in and busting our *legendary* graveyard.

Ah well. Last question: did you named newborns/migrants or should I do it? ;)

And welp for Lala, the potter (potterres? oO) our baron!

Anybody wants to pick up the earlier save? Or should I try again?

Jeff is there new LCS version? Or are you talking about the one that is already available? :).

Next person in line should reclaim it and name the dorfs :P. It's about middle of summer so there is a bit of time... and I sure hope that Forgotten Beasts from lower levels didn't break through.
Title: Re: Dwarf Fortress
Post by: xmorg on April 15, 2013, 04:32:08 pm
So who has the honour of reclamation?
Don't forget to customize your dwarves into a tactical squad.
I recommend 2 archers, 3 spearman a minor/mason and planter/brewer.
Title: Re: Dwarf Fortress
Post by: maheusz on April 15, 2013, 05:52:19 pm
Seems that either you or wallace - the fort fell because of tantrum spiral, so there may be not a lot of beasts to take care of... or I could be horribly wrong :P.

Do the traps get misplaced after reclaiming?
Title: Re: Dwarf Fortress
Post by: xmorg on April 19, 2013, 03:38:47 am
Its not going to be easy to retake the fort.  Goblin patrols are at the entrance and there is a forgotten beast inside.
I propose a contest! whoever takes the fort, gets the honor of being the cannon history, and we start the turns over from there.
Title: Re: Dwarf Fortress
Post by: maheusz on April 19, 2013, 10:53:22 am
Good! I'll start right away :P. In worst case I'll just add more bodies to the fortress...
Title: Re: Dwarf Fortress
Post by: maheusz on April 19, 2013, 11:45:18 am
Holy shit! That Forgotten Beast on the top of the structure doesn't help at all! I would say the best that can be done is shutting down the lower levels (blocking them off) and maybe trapping FB up there? considering it's melee type...
Title: Re: Dwarf Fortress
Post by: xmorg on April 20, 2013, 02:57:22 am
Im going to try again tonight hopefully.
1. discard all supplies! (everything needed can be reclaimed in a mature fort)
2. take only weapons/shields/ammo, maybe a wardog, hehe
3. use remaining points for skills
4. make 6 warriors and one utility.
5. make and arm squad on embark.
6. use squad movement to mico them and dispatch enemies one by one.

Lost 3 dwarves.  4 left, only 1 can walk, but we have settled in the main area below ground level.
There is miasma everywhere and lots of ghosts, but we are home :D

Carpily carp! Then I guess wallace, Jeff and me once again? Or are we changing the waiting line? :P

Also new version won't be compatible with old saves for sure... so we gotta hurry a bit :P.

Yeah I think you can pick it up, wallace :). And we'll go the normal routine from there... if ghosts won't murder our dwarves... or something equally funny happens :P.

Ha! I will have yo know that I have been very aggressive on burial duty, (even have one dwarf dedicated to nothing but burial.)

Sweet :D I'll start this evening!

Post by: wallace on April 28, 2013, 09:39:48 am
Um I'm not off to a good start... Expedition leader killed by Forgotten beast :/ There's not enough people to do the jobs I want done :( Like blocking off the forgotten beast

Conscripted almost everyone into a squad to finally deal with the forgotten beast as 2 more had got cornered by it. After several deaths, they finally killed it. The survivors are miserable but luckily just as it died, migrants arrived!!!! Population now 38

Haha, one of few times when migrants are actually a welcome sight, right? :P

The forge room has been reclaimed!
Title: Re: Dwarf Fortress
Post by: maheusz on May 02, 2013, 11:25:50 am
No magma monsters down there? I rememer that we weren't having best type of security in the forge...
Title: Re: Dwarf Fortress
Post by: wallace on May 03, 2013, 08:13:50 am
Not that I know of :D I had to reclaim it because someone was in a strange mood and needed a forge. They made some useless amulet :/ Also the elves came and left because I forgot the bins were made of wood... Things seem to be settling down again. The injured from the battle with the forgotten beast are miserable and keep throwing tantrums but they're pretty much all paralyzed so not causing any problems. :D However food seems to be running rather low :/ Something is going to have to be done about it.

Sorry guys, I got swamped with homework in the middle of my turn again :( I've uploaded the save part way through summer so someone can finish the year and then do their turn if they want or the just pick up the last save. The population is about 38 and things are kind of stable. Watch out for the food levels :/ Good luck :D

Okay, so is Jeff still going or not? Because I'm going to pick it up soon if nobody answers :P.

Don't worry about the time, wallace - it looks like the new version will be on soon, so we'll probably switch... and I doubt that saves are compatibile. Not with this amount of changes.

Roger. So I'll pick it up and try to preserve dwarfiness.

Boy, oh boy.
Title: Re: Dwarf Fortress
Post by: maheusz on May 15, 2013, 08:30:57 pm
I finished Wallace's turn, now mine is going. Fort is like 70+ dwarves, food and drinks are okay, because I started aboveground farming. Most of stuff is cleaned up - there is one ghost which body I can't find, but it's pretty harmless. Forgotten Beast downstairs is much more dangerous...

I moved most of my militia near it, but even if it has wings it just doesn't want to fly up, into fortress. Self preservation instinct I guess. Another problem is that parts of the stockpiles are spread out in the caverns and I ain't stupid enough to go there just yet.

Also on F6 shortcut there is adamantum pillar I'm currently mining. Very cautiously ;].
Title: Re: Dwarf Fortress
Post by: maheusz on May 19, 2013, 09:46:42 pm
Okay, my turn is done. The fort is like 100+ dwarves now and teeming with life. The militia squad is always training downstairs, near the well. Like I wrote before down in the shaft near main gate a ghostly Cook floats around, but he doesn't seem to care about anything. There are also quite few friendly goblins around so that's another thing. Under F6 is mined adamantum pillar - there will be enough for like 10-12 wafers, so enjoy your fun.

Save is here:

I guess it's xmorg's turn? ;).

Siege.... heheh...
Title: Re: Dwarf Fortress
Post by: maheusz on May 23, 2013, 04:50:44 pm
Haha, I've only got an ambush. Which was shortly dispatched by weapon traps. They do save a lot of effort :D
Title: Re: Dwarf Fortress
Post by: xmorg on May 24, 2013, 10:35:42 pm
There were/are 2 sieges the first was bugged.
This one is the "Big one", late autumn and im right in the middle of it.  Massive slaughter!
The dwarves insist on collecting socks outside the walls.  I also "stationed" my trips behind the bridge which some of them promptly sallied forth to "meat" the storm of arrows head-on.

ok so does anyone have any ideas?  I have about 20 dwarves at the entrance who are falling over themselves trying to go out and pick up stuff in the middle of the siege.  I cant seem to cancel the jobs, maybe i can mass forbid every object outside the fort?  Also solders are running out on their own and getting cut down as well.  There are a lot of archers and i am trying to stop a massacre...

Is there anywhere you can put some temporary doors and then forbid them?
Title: Re: Dwarf Fortress
Post by: maheusz on May 25, 2013, 01:07:06 pm
There is a burrow in the military menu called something like GTFO... It forces all dwarves who aren't conscripted to stay on the surface level, but inside the walls. You could also rewrite the burrow to accomodate lower levels and thus only have massive stack of 'cannot continue job - object forbidden' stuff :).

Or just get the bridges up... They are connected to levers, right?

Well i survived the siege.
Now on to becoming a barrony :D  I have selected Fish cleaner Stinthad Degzon to become royalty :p
Edit: all im gonna say is its baby mania in ragcopper.
its late winter and there has been an ambush.

Edit spring is here!  Whose next.

It's wallace turn next! Good to know that you took care of the siege. Then again I'm still waiting for some siege weapons which could make defending a bit more dangerous :D. Then again legendary monsters are immune to traps as far as I know...

So did you  make any adamantum weapons, xmorg?

Welp, okay there are things more important than DF :P. I'll take care of the save after I'll get better. Some nasty flu or something got me and sneezing all over the screen isn't my idea of fun :P.

I'll pick up the game soon (probably tomorrow) because before I had to take care of my nephews... Some hellish stuff ;]. Anyway. I'll probably deal with it in few days, so be prepared, guys :P.

hey peebles. sorry for being absent so long... things came up that had to be taken care of... my grandmother broke her hip, my grandfather had to have Open heart surgery, homestuck happened....
but i might maybe possibly be returning, i just need to get back into DF, which is hard... but totaly worth it. i'll probably be taking my next turn, which would be after xmorg right? unless you guys hate at me for being such a dick and comeing on and off so much!  :P
Title: Re: Dwarf Fortress
Post by: maheusz on June 30, 2013, 11:40:26 am
I don't think that anybody will be angry at your absence :P. The game is going quite slow, mainly because I picked up the save and had some personal problems ;]. So nothing was yet done. And since it's still the same version you should have easy time getting into it again :).

I've got the save, but didn't really do anything with it. A bit of shit hit the fan right now, so I'm not really in mood to play ;]. I'll guess skipping the turn is okay? It'll be my first time, be gentle :P.

That's the last file released.  Did someone else play after me?
Title: Re: Dwarf Fortress
Post by: maheusz on July 05, 2013, 07:27:59 pm
Yeah it's your save that is left into the void - I have it on my computer, so if anyone takes it's from my hands it'll be good :). When the turns will come back to me my stuff should be resolved.

Well, Jeff I had some family problems (with my aunt) and now it's this and a bit of some administrative issues in the area I live. Nothing too serious, but also not nice stuff ;]. Also time-devouring. So I kept the save safe, but never got time to start my turn. Life :P.

xmorg, blahg. My brain hurts, i can't figure this out, the turn cycle is making my head hurt. At least i know it's not immediately relevent considering maheusz's issues, so... whenever that is resolved, we'll continue i guess. i hope things get fixed with you maheusz!

so.... umm... yeah... wow....
and also
(http://i.imgur.com/7ukl2yG.png)
we had like a billion archers stationed on the edge of the map, and before i noticed them, i sent a squad to take care of a kolbold that had been spotted. little did i know that my poor poor soldiers would be cought in the crossfire of a midievil fire fight. there were 10 survivors... barely. also, i build a hospital on the roof.
